We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
Break the Barriers is a movement that aims to end the stigma around mental health by dismantling the systemic and historical barriers that BIPOC communities specifically have faced when seeking mental health care. We know that the way to end the stigma around mental health is by first and foremost, taking care of our own mental health. But when it comes to BIPOC mental health care, there are many societal, logistical, structural barriers that drive glaring disparities between accessible care.
BIPOC communities face many barriers when it comes to accessing mental health care, such as:
- Lack of Medical Access
- Income Disparities
- Prejudice and Discrimination
- Racism
- Lack of qualified, available, culturally grounded professionals to treat these communities
- Lack of diversity among practitioners within the mental health field
- Stigma within communities
- Lack of race-based trauma recognition in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
- Structural Barriers
- Logistical Barriers
Break The Barriers aims to drive greater awareness around mental health issues and barriers to accessing care in BIPOC communities, encourage the music industry to take care of their own mental health and support those around them, create, promote, and facilitate critical trainings for communities, organizations, and mental health providers, and end the stigma around mental health.
